When my children were in school, Friday Nights were hot dog nights.  We had to be back up at the school soon after they came home, so that meant supper had to be something quick to eat much less quick to make.

Most Friday nights we ate Baked Hot Dogs just like I use to eat on Friday nights when I was in high school.  Hot dogs are classic and preparing them ready to grab and go is the perfect food for our game night.

Chili Cheese Hot Dog Bubble Up has four main ingredients plus the ingredients for garnishing.  My children growing up this Chili Cheese Hot Dog Bubble Up bake would have been a huge hit.

WHAT MAKES THE RECIPE A BUBBLE UP BAKE?

A bubble up is a casserole recipe with pillows of dough usually cut up refrigerated canned biscuits topping a casserole which bubbles up and infuses the juices of the casserole in all the dough while it bakes.

Basically what makes a bubble up bake is a biscuit dough baked in the casserole or a topping on the casserole.

SOME TIPS ON MAKING BUBBLE UP BAKES

  • Mix the hot dogs pieces with chili without beans for the first layer and save the can of chili with beans for another layer.
  • Use two different cheese types, American and sharp cheese.
  • Cover the top of the bubble up with foil in the last 10 minutes of cooking to prevent the biscuits from browning too much.
  • Garnish with the condiments just before serving to prevent the biscuits from becoming too soggy when serving.

They are so good we dig in immediately when they come out of the oven.  Bubble up bakes are super fun to make and absolutely heavenly.

We love them.  I hope you will try the recipe soon.

Enjoy ~ Kay
