Very Simplistic Bread Pudding {Granny's Recipe}

My Mother always cooked exceptionally great food with few ingredients, and her Very Simplistic Bread Pudding was no exception. Growing up, I never thought of this dessert as a no frills dessert, just a delicious comfort food.  While French Toast and Bread Pudding at our house was a way to use up stale bread.  There were times you would find my Mother laying sliced bread on a baking sheet to dry out, and you knew what was coming. I have tried Bread Pudding at many restaurants, and none seems to taste like my Mother except this one restaurant we eat fish.  My husband goes to eat their fish, and I go to eat their decadent Bread Pudding With Vanilla Sauce.  What do they say?   Opposites attract..... There is one rule with my Bread Pudding, no raisins.  Mother didn't put them in hers, and I don't put them in mine.  One of her secrets to a rich, creamy Bread Pudding, was when she took it out of the oven, she would pour melted butter all over the top, and w

Napa Cabbage and Leeks

Do you want a new side dish that is easy and quick? My husband is a big fan of cabbage. and I try to make it as often as I can.  He loves Cole Slaw, Cabbage Rolls, Sauteed Cabbage; you name it, and if it has cabbage in it, he is happy.   It is fairly inexpensive and easy to cook as a side dish or added to a main dish.

Apple Walnut Zucchini Bread

Quick Bread is one of the first things that I learned to make in my first year of Home Economics.  Now you can tell how old I am. (he he)   I have to say, Home Economics was always my favorite class in my high school years, and interestingly enough, since I was in high school, that class has undergone numerous name and status changes.  Like the cooking part---the class I took is now totally separate and called Culinary Arts Class.  Historically, the class was mostly women, but with the serge in the culinary field, that has changed.  Quick Bread is a term used in making a bread batter that is made rather quickly using a leavening agent other than yeast.  Zucchini bread falls in that category. I am a big fan of fresh apple cake .  After I saw the recipe for Zucchini Bread over at Joy of Bak ing and she added an apple to her recipe, I decided to add grated apple to my recipe too.  This Apple Walnut Zucchini Bread reminds me a lot of Carrot Bread, but without the

Grandma's Slumber Night Party 2011

The time has come around for our Grandma's Slumber Night Party we have each year. This year I think the grandchildren were extra excited to get together since we were not able to have one last year because of Grandpa's illness. For me, it is the highlight of the year.  We have different crafts, each one makes their own individual dinner, and then we watch a movie that makes us all laugh. Our theme is always God centered and full of fun! 2011 Grandma's Slumber Night Party   He Is The Light Of The World...John 3:12 One of the crafts this year was making Stain Glass Votives. Some tissue paper, glue, a votive holder and a brush are all you'll need - and the variations are endless. Over the years I kept tissue paper from various gifts.   As you can see, they turned out so cute!     We talked about how the Lord is the light of the world and how He wants us to shine His light so others can see the Lord in them. How wonderful to kno

Classic Peanut Butter Cookies {You Will Want To Know How They Are Made}

Hannah, my granddaughter, made these Classic Peanut Butter Cookies during our cookie marathon I had when the Grandchildren were here. These effortless cookies have that sweet and salty flavor that makes them so irresistible. When you see a crisscross pattern on cookies, you automatically know that they are Classic Peanut Butter Cookies .  As history goes, the crisscross was popularized by Pillsbury in the 1930's.
