Strawberry Limeade {Sonic Strawberry Limeade Copycat}

10:02 PM

Sonic Strawberry Limeade, made with freshly squeezed lime juice and sweetened strawberry syrup.  All enjoy a tangy, sweet combination drink at one of America's drive-in fast food restaurants.

Strawberries are so plentiful right now, giving me all kinds of recipe ideas.  I had some strawberry juice leftover the other day from a recipe for Strawberry Sheet Cake Shortcake.

I sliced about a quart and a half of strawberries, sprinkled sugar on them, and set them in the refrigerator for 4-6 hours to build on all of that great juice that seeps out of them.

I had taken them out of the refrigerator and poured them into a mesh strainer ending up with this beautiful strawberry sweetness.

That is when I began to think about a recipe for Strawberry Limeade like I get at the Sonic Drive-In.

So I made a simple lime syrup and added it to the strawberry juice.  It turns out I can enjoy the summer and have happy hour anytime!

WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO MAKE STRAWBERRY LIMEADE

  • 3/4 cups sugar

  • 1/4 cup freshly squeezed key lime juice

  • 1 cup water

  • 2 cups strawberry juice

  • 2 liters club soda or sparkling water

  • 8 fresh strawberries, sliced

  • 10 fresh strawberries for garnish

  • 2 key limes, sliced or cut in wedges for garnish

HOW TO MAKE STRAWBERRY LIMEADE

  • In a medium saucepan, boil the sugar and water, stirring until the sugar is completely dissolved. Add key lime juice and stir until mixed well; set aside to cool.

  • In a serving pitcher, add the strawberry juice and lime simple syrup; stir until thoroughly mixed.  Add club soda and sliced strawberries and stir well; serve over ice.

  • Garnish with fresh strawberries and limes slices or wedges.

  • Note:  You can use regular lime if key lime is not available.  Be sure that your club soda is not flat.  This will cause it not to taste right.
