Pumpkin Recipes

Ten plus recipes made with pumpkin, canned, or fresh.  I have included cakes, cinnamon rolls, muffins, soups, and a recipe for the most delicious Honey Pumpkin Cornbread. Are you a fan of pumpkin recipes?  I can't wait for Pumpkin season.  It seems to come earlier and earlier every year. Even though some of the pumpkin products may be marketing ploys some people seem to welcome it back every year. Part of the hoopla is the warmth the fall season brings, mugs of apple cider and pumpkin bread, playing in the leaves, and wrapping up in cozy blankets.

Daddy's Lemon Icebox Pie {Granny's Recipe}

Lemon Icebox Pie , classic Southern dessert traditionally set in the refrigerator before serving and that is how it gets the name "icebox".  Perfect dessert to say goodbye to long and sweltering days of summer. A Southern July 4th Tradition! Mother's Cherry Cheesecake Pie {Granny's Recipe}

Celebrate the red, white and blue with this classic cheesecake pie. Perfect for a picnic or 4th of July party, the smooth and creamy cheesecake pie filling in graham crust will be a crowd pleaser for sure! All my growing up years, I remember my Mother making this Cherry Cheesecake Pie in the summer around the July 4th depending on what day it fell on closest to the weekend. She always would have to make two of them so there would be enough to go around.

I love this time of the year, and I love putting together Christmas treat boxes and trays.  It is still early enough to do some holiday baking.

Lemon Blueberry Squash Bread

Lemon Blueberry Squash Bread , fresh lemon juice, and zest, luscious blueberries combined with shredded yellow squash are the perfect ingredients for a summer quick bread. Have you ever heard of yellow squash in a quick bread recipe?  I was first introduced to it last summer by my daughter.  I love to bake with zucchini in bread but never had made any with yellow summer squash.

Strawberry Vanilla Wafer Icebox Pie {A Southern No-Bake Pie!}

Strawberry Vanilla Wafer Icebox Pie is a no-bake pie.  Icebox pies are especially popular in the South where days here are sultry hot and us Southern ladies enjoy serving refreshing and delicious desserts. Early in the 1900's there were iceboxes in most house, and the pies were made with a baked pastry crust and a whipped filling without any worry of the pie oozing all over the plate.

Sugar Cookie Peach Cobbler

Creamy Peach Cobbler  is one of those  quick cobbler   recipes  that can be ready in a jiffy!  Layer the ingredients in a baking dish and resist stirring and watch the magic happen. As a tradition, every year around my daughter's birthday, we try to go to our favorite Peach Orchard! This year we actually got to go on her birthday, which was sweet. There are so many fresh vegetables and fruits, you cannot leave without something.   Who remembers the roadside produce stands that were popular in the '50s and '60s?  This is as close to one as you can get these days. We loaded up with fresh peaches, wild red plums, cantaloupes, Fresh Lady Cream Peas , and their famous fresh peach soft serve ice cream.  Yum! I like to make this cobbler with a sugar cookie mix instead of a cake mix.  Although, you can use a cake mix if you like.  Buttermilk can be substituted for the cream, and you have Buttermilk Peach Cobbler . The cream is poured over the peaches, and the sug

A Southern Classic! Old Fashioned Blackberry Cobbler

Old Fashioned Blackberry Cobbler , a Southern dessert made with a lattice top crust blanketed over the fresh juicy blackberries that help form a dumpling texture bottom crust when scooped up in a bowl.  And don't forget the big scoop of vanilla ice cream!   Old Fashioned Blackberry Cobbler is a summertime favorite around our house.  It is a classic Southern dessert with the richness of a buttery crust and the sweet tartness of berries. Start off with making the crust first.  I use the same recipe for  Peach Cobbler . The berries make so much juice in a cobbler that I like to use a double crust to get that yummy dumpling texture. My sisters and I grew up picking wild dewberries close to our house.  We would watch for the blooms in the early spring and couldn't wait until the berries started peeking through the berry vines.  Blackberries are closely related to dewberries, except they are just a little bigger.  The taste to me is the same and makes e

Lemon Apricot Lush Dessert {A cool and refreshing dessert for Easter!}

The recipe for this Lemon Apricot Lush Dessert  is a lighter version of the traditional Lemon Lush desserts you see over the internet.  Sometimes you want a cool and refreshing dessert after you have eaten rich food.  Lemon desserts just brighten anyone's meal.   Lemon Apricot Lush Dessert  would be a perfect dessert to serve for  Easter.  This recipe only calls for 4 ingredients and comes together quickly.  Just put it in the refrigerator for a couple of hours and it is ready to serve.    Hope you make it soon.  Enjoy!

Strawberry Jello Angel Food Cake

This  Strawberry Jello, Angel Food Cake  recipe is from Tupperware.   Yes, they have tons of recipes using their products, many that I have today.   Tupperware products are now vintage classics, and many kitchens still use them today.  They last forever, which says a lot about the products we get today. Strawberry season is coming on strong around these parts, my house included.  We just love strawberries in anything. My husband is a big fan of this luscious fruit.  He is the first to clean and slice, if necessary, each time I bring them home from the grocery store.   He will say, "we don't want to let them ruin."  I notice a lot of them go missing when I'm getting ready to use them in a dish.  ha! ha! Starting with a store bought Angel Food Cake,  this gorgeous cake comes together in no time.  Place it in the refrigerator and watch it transform into light and airy deliciousness.   Another reason this cake is a favorite in our family is that we ma

German Chocolate Cake Balls

German Chocolate Cake Balls are just another addition to my long list of German Chocolate favorites.   If you have not made cake balls before, this recipe is a good one to start with.  Typically, you can make them with cake mixes, canned frosting, and dipping chocolate.   How easy is that?  Only 3 ingredients! Valentine's is just around the corner, and these would be a wonderful treat.    These are fun to make with your children and Grandchildren like I did.   We had so much fun making them, and dipping them was the best.   For some more wonderful Valentine's treats, look to the right on the sidebar.

White Chocolate Cherry Nut Cookies

Cookie trays are the perfect dessert around the holidays because they can be made in advance and are easy to serve with little fanfare.  They are the star on the table of any gathering. My daughter-in-law, Brandy, adapted this recipe for White Chocolate Cherry Nut Cookies from my recipe for Chocolate Drizzled Cherry Delights .   She came up with the idea to add white chocolate chips and pecans to the cookie batter and drizzle white chocolate over them.  Turns out I really like these over the chocolate ones.   Since there are some in the family that prefers the chocolate ones, that's the reason you make both and let everyone choose for themselves. These White Chocolate Cherry Nut Cookies are soft and chewy with chunks of white chocolate, chopped candied cherries, and crunchy pecans in a Betty Crocker sugar cookie mix.   These cookies are so easy and quick to make.  Don't underestimate the flavor and richness of this holiday cookie. Gingerbread Oreo Truffles {So Simple To Make ~ Yet So Decadent!}

Gingerbread Oreo Truffles , a mixture of crushed gingerbread Oreos and cream cheese, and then dipped in chocolate almond bark.  Simple to make and yet so decadent. My family is obsessed with Oreos, Double Stuffed ones to be exact.  This weekend we opened our first batch of the Gingerbread ones for this year.   Gingerbread Oreos  are seasonal, only coming out in the stores around the first of November.  As soon as I see them in the stores, the first thing I think about is making these decadent Gingerbread Oreo Truffles .
