Old Fashioned Doughnuts

Old-fashioned doughnuts , just like Grandma used to make,  are  easy and straightforward.   The dough is very forgiving and easy to work with.  One of the ingredients will surprise you, yielding a texture nothing short of perfection. CAKE DOUGHNUTS HOLES Cake doughnuts are leavened with baking powder, rather than yeast. These have the ideal texture, just like the ones you remember.  And they are perfect for just cutting out the doughnut holes when you want a mini version. Have you ever wanted to make old fashioned doughnut from scratch that does not take all day in the kitchen to make?   That's me...I like to get up early on a Saturday morning and whip up a batch of cake doughnuts, just like the bakery down the street, before everyone gets up.    I learned from Ashley Strickland Freeman, the author of The Duke's Real Mayonnaise Cookbook, that she also enjoys making homemade doughnuts on Saturday mornings.  Ashley reached out to me t...

Very Simplistic Bread Pudding {Granny's Recipe}

Growing up, I never thought of this dessert as a no-frills dessert, just a delicious, comforting dessert that makes you look forward to leftover rolls, breakfast toast, and any stale bread in the bread box.

Overnight French Toast and Warm Honey Syrup {Celebrating A Birthday Breakfast!}

Texture wise, it is creamy, delicate on the inside, and tender on the outside-- being able to cut through with ease, similar to the perfect French Toast. Taste wise, it is absolutely scrumptious! Birthday breakfasts are another way to celebrate a person's special day.  On the first of July, my Grandsons, Luke, who turned 14, and Gabriel, who turned 11, wanted to celebrate their birthday breakfast at my house with their other cousins who were in town for the week. I asked Luke what he would like me to make.  He said, "just surprise me, Grandma"!  I made him this Overnight French Toast   dish wit...
