Rush Hour Supper {A Family Favorite One Pot Meal}

Rush Hour Super is an old recipe using ground beef that my Mother in law gave me when I first got married. Something Easy and Quick is what she helped me learn to cook. Sometime in the late 80's my Mother in law gave me this recipe for Rush Hour Supper that someone had given her, that someone had given them, and so on. Isn't it like that, you get a recipe from someone, that gets it from someone, and then you never know where it originated from. All I know is that this recipe was a staple in our house when my children were growing up.

Weeknight Family Supper Meal: #5 Spaghetti Pie

The Weeknight Family Supper Meal is an inspiration for a meal that can be enjoyed any night of the week, offering ideas on how to prepare part of the meal ahead, how to freeze leftovers, and how to repurpose them into a new meal. With Valentine's Day next Wednesday, I thought you might like a meal for the special occasion.   When my children were small, we chose to celebrate the moment with them at the family table instead of a quiet, romantic meal just my husband and me.   I would set the table with fine china, crystal tea glasses, real cloth napkins, and, well, the silverware was our everyday fare. I would serve a one-pot dish, such as Shrimp Creole over buttered rice, accompanied by a green salad. For dessert, we would have chocolate cake.   Oh, the memories are flooding in.  sniff sniff!

Southern Fried Cabbage with Kielbasa, LTYB, Low Carb, Gluten Free

Southern Fried Cabbage with Kielbasa , is a quick and easy one skillet meal for a busy weeknight supper.  Delicious, satisfying, and inexpensive, who could ask for more? Fried Cabbage is a regular side dish around our supper table.  Jim loves cabbage period, and so do I.  We usually add some kind of cabbage dish to our meal rotation two or three times a month.    Cabbage is low carb and has healthy nutrients and fiber.  It can be fried in different fats all the way from rich bacon fat to healthy avocado oil which is what I cooked it in this time. Although, I really like to cook cabbage in bacon fat we are trying to eat healthy these days so for this recipe I started the dish by cooking some thickly sliced turkey kielbasa chunks.

Weeknight Family Supper Meal: #3 Chicken Terrific

Weeknight Family Supper Meal is  an inspiration for a meal one night of the week, offering ideas on how to prepare part of the meal ahead, how to freeze any leftovers, or how to repurpose leftovers into a new meal.    Casseroles are a favorite at our house, especially those that can be made ahead, stored in the fridge, and then popped in the oven when it's time to cook supper.   If a buttery topping is sprinkled on top, as this casserole has, leave it to sprinkle just before baking.  Look out for the leftovers.   We love this casserole almost better the next day.  It is scrumptious.   Did I say it is not like your typical casseroles?  The ingredients may surprise you.

Weeknight Family Supper Meal: #2 Leftover Ham with Bowtie Pasta and English Peas

Weeknight Family Supper Meal , an inspiration for a meal one night of the week that may include ideas how to make part of the meal ahead, how to freeze any leftovers or how to make leftovers into a makeover for another meal.   After Christmas, we always have plenty of ham leftover.  This Christmas was no different.  I usually buy a whole ham for Thanksgiving and a spiral ham for Christmas. I love to dice leftover spiral ham.  The cuts are all uniform and the perfect thickness.  They look pretty in ham salad or a pasta dish like Leftover Ham and Bowtie Pasta.

Grilled Apple Cider Glazed Pork Chops

Grilled Apple Cider Glazed Pork Chops, using up some leftover apple cider to marinate and coat with a maple syrup thick boneless pork chops, will dramatically amp up the flavor, savory, and a bit of sweetness.   Pork chops are a favorite around our house. Cook them anyway.   The boneless pork chops grilled tend to be tough and dry at times, so we like to brine them before cooking them or coat them in a super delicious glaze while cooking them.

Weeknight Family Supper Meal: #1 Smothered Burritos Casserole Using Store Bought Frozen Burritos

Weeknight Family Supper Meal , an inspiration for a meal one night of the week that may include ideas how to make part of the meal ahead, how to freeze any leftovers or how to make leftovers into makeovers for another meal.   The main dish is Smothered Burrito Casserole using premade frozen burritos.    For the perfect accompaniment, a tasty recipe for Mexican Salad that goes all the way back to the 1960's.  Sometimes we add a side dish of whole kernel corn, Mexican Rice, and chips and hot sauce. Dessert is a simple layer of crescent rolls blanketed around a fluf fy cream cheese mixture known as Sopopia Cheesecake.

Cranberry Orange Bundt Cake

Cranberry Orange Bundt Cake , a beautiful festive dessert with the flavor combo of cranberry and orange.  Perfect for any holiday occasion, but especially around Christmas time.    Tis the season for cranberry and orange, right?  I love the combination and look forward to it every year.   I watch for the cranberries to be stocked in the stores.   The sweetness of the orange and the tartness of the cranberries trigger a beautiful burst of flavor everytime they come together.    This is cake can be a breakfast cake or a dessert cake and why not include it in the snack category too.  Oh! And don't forget about afternoon tea. haha!

Grandma's Turkey and Cornbread Dressing

GRANDMA'S CORNBREAD DRESSING STUFFED TURKEY Grandma's Cornbread dressing stuffed turkey is a whole baked turkey that is placed in a pan of cornbread dressing and then baked.  The best turkey and dressing you will ever eat.  And don't forget the giblet gravy. This is my Mother in law Betty's recipe.  When I came into the family, I was not used to eating turkey stuffed with cornbread dressing.  I grew up eating the turkey baked separately from the dressing.   It did not take me long to get used to eating the turkey and dressing stuffed.
