Banana Nut Bread {Granny's Recipe}

Banana Nut Bread, a classic straight from my Mother's kitchen, toasted pecans folded in a rich banana quick bread that is moist and perfectly sweet.   Now that my children are grown and married, I am the only one that eats bananas in the house.  I often buy too many bananas, and I can't eat all of them before they start turning brown.

Southern Style Stuffed Cabbage Rolls {Granny's Recipe}

Southern Style Stuffed Cabbage Rolls  are one of my favorite dishes my Mother handed down to me.  Her recipe is very simple to make using few ingredients that make for an inexpensive meal. They are made with hamburger, rice,  onions, and covered in a ketchup diced tomato sauce.

Mother's Meatloaf {Granny's Recipe}

Cream of Mushroom Meatloaf,  simple ingredients, cream of mushroom soup, Lipton Onion Soup mix, oatmeal and lean ground hamburger.  Cook in an iron skillet and it will give the most wonderful juices to make a creamy gravy! Cream of Mushroom Meatloaf is a meatloaf recipe my Mother use to make as an alternative to the traditional meatloaf recipes made with tomato sauce or ketchup.

Baked Texas Style Chili Dogs {Granny's Recipe Revisited}

When I was in high school, I remember my mother would make these Baked Texas Style Chili Dogs sometimes on Friday nights just before we went to the football game. This was a quick way to serve chili dogs without having to set out all of the fixings, and clean up is quick.  What I like most about them is when they come out of the oven, the bun is crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside along with the hot dog and chili. They are so yummy good! I made these with some of my Blue Ribbon 8-Hour Chili and served them for a quick Sunday lunch. We had some leftover, and I cut them in half and served them as mini chili dogs at our Life Group Meeting Sunday evening. They were a great hit with the children.

Sausage Gravy {Granny's Recipe}

Sausage Gravy  is a favorite breakfast food that my family has enjoyed for years.  My Children and Grandchildren just gobble this stuff up. This creamy gravy poured over biscuits, even toast, makes for a hearty breakfast.  Many of my childhood memories are linked to my Mother preparing food, and this breakfast item is no different.  You may think that this Sausage Gravy and Old Fashioned Buttered Toast   are difficult to make, but you couldn't be more wrong.  This sausage gravy is made with ground sausage, flour, milk, and seasoning.  The buttered toast is simply bread and butter.  How easy is that? I know.  You are asking, "What is old fashioned about buttered toast?"  Back in the day when I was growing up, there was no such thing as spreadable butter or margarine.   Margarine was the butter of choice.  We mostly used margarine and even called it butter.  If you used butter in a recipe, you would affectionately call it "real butter."  Isn't that funny

Old School Cooking! Leftover Ham and Great Northern Beans {Granny's Recipe}

Leftover Ham and Great Northern Beans , cooked  on the stovetop in a big soup pot like my Mother cooked her's. A c rockpot is a great option to cook them, but remember they take less time to cook than pinto beans.  The upside--you get to enjoy all those juices quicker with a big slab of cornbread. Our Christmas ham this year was super delicious, and the first thing we always look forward to is cooking the ham bone in a pot of beans.  In fact, it never gets frozen. Straight to the pot it went with some Great Northern Beans .

Millionaire Fudge

Millionaire Fudge, the perfect old fashioned recipe that will make everyone want to go down memory lane for grandma's fudge recipes.  GRANNY'S MILLIONAIRE FUDGE RECIPE This Millionaire Fudge recipe is super easy to make, no thermometer required, and will exceed all your expectations of having the perfect homemade fudge.  Millionaire Fudge is my favorite fudge of all time.  It is only the most incredibly scrumptious fudge you will ever eat. In the 1950s, Mamie Eisenhower introduced marshmallow whip creme to fudge recipes, changing the whole concept of how easy it is to make, not to mention how delicious it is.

Homemade Coconut Cream Pie + an easy method for cooking the filling! {Granny's Recipe}

Homemade Coconut Cream Pie , a classy southern pie for years.  It is made with a homemade rich and creamy filling, covered with pillows of whipped cream and sprinkled with sweetened coconut. Easter just screams Homemade Coconut Cream Pie , and I mean homemade from start to finish. This recipe comes from my Mother, who was the Queen of pie making in our family. She could whip out pies of every kind in little of no time.  Her secret was to have plenty of pie crust made up, and in the freezer.  When she was ready to make cream pies, all she had to do, was pull one or two out of the freezer and pop them in the oven.  While they were baking, she would go ahead and start making the filling.  She would use a certain pot every time and stand at the stove just stirring away because you couldn't walk away while making the pie filling. Making homemade pie filling is intimidating to some people. They just don't know when it is ready. Here is a little secret my Mot

Southern Style Coleslaw + How to make the dressing to go on it! {Granny's Recipe}

Southern Style Coleslaw , a quick and easy side dish served up with a lot of Southern dishes, fried chicken, catfish and delicious BBQ.  A few simple ingredients, cabbage, carrots and the perfect dressing are all you need. This recipe brings back memories of my Mother shredding her cabbage and carrots in one of those Stainless Steel Saladmaster Food Processors that was popular in the 60's and 70's.  It would take no time, and she would have her Southern Style Coleslaw made and on the table for our meal.

Homemade Tartar Sauce Is Sure To Compliment Southern Fried Catfish {Granny's Recipe}

Homemade Tartar Sauce , ridiculously easy dipping sauce to make and eat with Southern Fried Catfish, Salmon, and most any seafood.  It uses ingredients that are already in your kitchen. There is a restaurant close to us that serves the best catfish, but what they serve before you ever get the catfish is a favorite.  They bring out these little bowls of sliced onions, green tomato relish, and coleslaw with baskets of hush puppies.  We sit there and eat until they bring the fish out.  By then I am stuffed. This recipe comes from my Mother.  She made  Homemade Tartar Sauce  not just for when we were eating  catfish , but also for the times she made her  Salmon Croquettes . The recipe is easy with few ingredient and one that you cannot go wrong with.  It is more about the ratio of the onions and pickle relish.  We like ours on the oniony side rather than on the pickley side. Mixing it up is the same.  One thing I do today that my Mother didn't do is to pat dry the

Sunday Pot Roast with Potatoes and Carrots {Granny's Recipe}

There is nothing better than to walk into your house after church on Sunday, and smell the rich aroma of   Pot Roast cooking. There is a certain warm, nostalgic memory I feel every time I make my Mother's Sunday Pot Roast with Potatoes and Carrots .

Classic Lime Sweet Pickles

Classic Lime Sweet Pickles , cucumbers made into the most heavenly crisp, sweet, tangy pickle you will ever eat.  The hardest part about making these pickles is waiting for them to be ready to eat.   This summer, we had more cucumbers than we knew what to do with due to a little, or you might say a big mistake.

Old Fashioned Peach Butter {Granny's Recipe}

Old Fashioned Peach Butter, fresh peaches slowly cooked with spices and sugar until the liquid has evaporated lending a smooth silky texture like soft butter.   Growing up in the '60s, all I remember was homemade jams and jellies on Mother's breakfast table.   It was a traditional event each summer to make Peach Butter from fresh peaches.  We would wash all the peaches and peeled each one, leaving a little of the peach with the skin, because that is what she would make her Peach Butter from.   Then she would slice up the peaches and put them in a pot on the stove and make peach preserves.   I rarely see them anymore, but she would also make Pickled Peaches that graced our table at Thanksgiving and Christmas.   When it was all said and done, the only thing we threw away was the seed.
